Results from the 1997 National Survey of
Mental Health and Wellbeing indicate that 9.7%, or nearly 1.3 million, of
adult Australians suffer from an anxiety disorder in any 12 month period. In
response to this identified need, the Sydney Anxiety Disorders Practice was
formed with the specific aim of providing specialist clinical
psychological services to both adults and children suffering from anxiety
disorders and other anxiety-related problems. |
|
q Commitment |
The
Sydney Anxiety Disorders Practice is committed to providing treatments that
are short term, cost effective and scientifically validated. |
q
Effectiveness
|
The
major treatment approach used is ‘Cognitive Behaviour Therapy’ (CBT), which
has consistently been shown to be the most effective psychological treatment
for the anxiety disorders. CBT is a skills based approach which concentrates
on three essential components: |

q
Changing
behaviour to reduce avoidance and ensure that a person is able to function
socially, occupationally and in all other areas of their life. |
q
Fees
|
The
fees for our services are between $150 and $200 per hour, depending on the practitioner seen. If the
individual’s difficulties lie outside our area of expertise, we will assist
them in finding the most appropriate service for referral. Fees are payable at the
time of consultation. Please note that
from November 1, 2006 Medicare will provide a rebate of up to $110/session,
for up to 12 sessions per year, for services provided by a clinical
psychologist.
Some private health funds also
cover part of the fee. |
q
Qualifications

All Practice Members have Masters Degree
qualifications in Clinical Psychology from the leading Universities. All are registered
Clinical Psychologists, with membership of both the Australian Psychological
